This place made me sick............. Because I ate so many delicious tacos! I ordered 8 tacos of several varities, the barbacoa was certainly my favorite, tender, rich, just sooo good. Carnitas were incredible as was the al pastor. The asada was slightly tougher, but still quite flavorful. Chicken was clean and shredded perfectly. Their sauces in the condiment bar really add to each and every bite. Some have said the red sauce was to spicy, I found it to be perfect. I ended my meal with a huge smile on my face. The staff were really friendly and understood English fine, I had minimal difficulty with the all spanish menu. This is not like the gringo pleasers where everything tastes similar, truly amazing flavors. I plan to frequent this place for a long time to come.

Blah. The food was ok. Best I can say. Kind of dirty. Not very helpful. Won't go back.

Truly authentic Mexican food. Love everything about it! From the simple small dining room to the english-free menu. The hot sauce selection is fantastic. Highly recommended.

I have been wanting to try this place for some time now. I finally made it and I wish it were in my neighborhood because it would be a weekly visit. They even have a waitress and she was very helpful. We had a few items and I had been craving ceviche for a while and they had it on the menu. It was recommended to have the fish as the shrimp wasn't ready and we didn't have the time to wait. It was great. Looking forward to getting back.

I am a huge fan of authentic Hispanic food and after reading reviews had to try it. Saturday afternoon with the love of my life went to go chow down. Busy it was. The woman who took orders was obviously overwhelmed, but extremely nice. My favorite thing is fajitas so I ordered fajitas de camaron to share with hubby. He ordered super nachos. I've done my share of traveling and love hole in the wall, ma& pa eateries. Order came out and was nothing that you would expect. Looked nothing like the pictures on menu. Fajita mix was a small handful of overcooked small shrimp with corn, green beans, carrots, peas, a couple of strips of peppers and onions. Nachos were disgustingly covered with nacho cheese sauce from a can. Really? Then I had to ask and wait another 10 minutes for my corn tortillas. 14 bucks for veg all fajitas and 7 bucks for cheesey nachos from a can. This is definitely an authentic different cuisine. But not my thing.

Is there anything better than 5 star food at $ price? La Authentica operates in the tradition of street food in Penang, Cafe Du Monde, Austin TX Food Trucks, curry in Toronto and $1 oysters on Pike Street or in Vancouver. I have tried almost the entire left side of the menu over the past two months and every one of the 20+ offerings has exceeded expectations!!!! I strongly suggest you stick with the fish. That right - fish, cheap and deep in West Valley, UT! I don't care how they do it, it tastes great! THE CEVICHE RULES. Octopus, shrimp, white fish and more! Mix in some green (more avocados than you deserve) and red stuff (pico) and you don't even have to feel guilty. This is not a place to go on a fist date if your person of interest is shallow and keen on trappings. This is the place to go when you are hungry, feel you deserve better, and know you are approaching the limit on your VISA!!! ENJOY

OMG. This place is the best Mexican I've had in utah!!! The ceviche is awesome..I've been back several times since I first visited and haven't been disappointed yet. Everything has been delicious and the waitresses are nice. The RICE is awesome..super soft and fluffy......But the best things are all of the seafood dishes...

This place is amazing, first time I went I had carne y nopales and it was very very good, loved it. But this last time I went back I had fajitas camarones, and also tried some of the camarones aguachiles. I can't stop thinking about the camarones aguachiles, it was so refreshing and good I was blown away and the fajitas camarones were simply amazing too, two of my favorite Mexican dishes I've ever tried I think, I will be coming back regularly I'm sure, I can't wait to eat camarones aguachiles again.

carne asada fries here are pretty good. you have to ask for everything on it if you want the california version though, otherwise, they will just give you plain fries, carne asada meat, cheese. It comes out to about $8 for a box and if you dine in, you get free chips and salsa. I like it here and will come back. for anyone craving carne asada fries, you should try this place out. The ceviche is just okay--kind of bland imo--and for $12, I wouldn't get it again.

Oh, yeah! I found my go-to place for plain ol' simple Mexican food. To me, this is like the better version of all those Beto's, Alberto's, Roberto's, Francisco's, Alejandro's, and taco stands all in one place. I absolutely adore this place because it is very clean and well kept, good ol' tasty food that hits the spot, and great service with a smile. I can't put my finger on it exactly, but something about this restaurant really makes me fond about it and can't wait to go back. The way the owners carry out their business just makes you want to eat their food. They were really earnest and I felt it. I was stunned by their menu and I loved at how they had pictures of all of their dishes. They also have a good variety of hot sauces and an à la carte with different sauces and vinegared-vegetables for your condiments. I'm sure you'll find something that you like here because who doesn't love Mexican food? Note(s): You get free chips and salsa and the salsa is muy deliciouso!

Tried this place due to the amazing reviews and I agree with all of them. Couple things that were not mentioned but would have been nice to know-especially being a parent: Small inside-less than 10 tables none that could comfortably seat parties larger than 4. No highchairs or booster seats. Infant seats do not fit on these booths. You have a server which means you tip. I don't mind tipping but sometimes I choose my places based on whether I have to fork over extra cash for a tip. Otherwise this place was authentic, clean, friendly staff, huge menu with pictures, free chips and yummy salsa, prompt service with attentive staff. Definitely my new go to place!

I'll be honest, I don't get out to the WVC much, so eating here was a little bit of an adventure. They're located in a brightly colored building on the north side of 3500 S in West Valley. Its well past the mall but if you're keeping an eye out it shouldn't be hard to find it. They have a vast menu. It was 4 full pages of dishes all with pictures. Its not your average gringo Mexican food so the pictures helped quite a bit on figuring out what to get. Making sure they could feed you for three meals a day, they had a breakfast section on the menu as well as the lunch/dinner type food. I went for a safe favorite my first time around and picked the Chile Relleno & Enchilada platter. Because I heard from Ryan K about their carnitas, I picked up 2 of their tacos too. The food was really excellent. It was authentic, flavorful, fresh and just a pleasure to eat. The pulled chicken in the enchilada was moist and shredded well. The chile relleno was filled with cheese and was fried fresh, not pulled from a hot bin. Often an after thought at many places, the rice was cooked and had a great flavor and the refried beans were just awesome. It seems like so many places here avoid refried beans but when they're done right they're a great addition to the plate. The carnitas tacos were a great way to round off the meal. Like the chicken, the carnitas was moist and shredded just right. It had good flavor without the crutch of over seasoning the pork. It was served on a fresh warm corn tortilla. I hit the salsa and condiment bar for some lettuce, sauces and salsa to top it with. And the best part of it all, I ate like a king and it totaled to be less than 14 dollars. You really can't complain about an authentic flavorful Mexican meal that is affordable too. So if you're looking for an adventure out in WVC, make sure to stop by La Autenica for some Mexican deliciousness.

For the love of god someone take this barbacoa away from me before I kill again. Asada This is not Fiesta Ole Mexican food or even that shit hole Cafe Rio Mexican food. This is Mexican food you would find in Mexico where they call the Mexican food.......food. This is the most authentic Mexican I have tasted around. They do not try to Americanize it to make it more palatable for white folk. The service is friendly and eager to help. I got the barbacoa and damn near ate through the plate trying to get all of that tender fall apart goodness. My first wife ordered the Carne Asada and although it looks thin and tough it was flavorful and awesome. They give you the choice of either corn or flour tortillas with your meal. I prefer the corn while my first wife prefers the flour, both are tasty and conjure up memories of being on the beach in old Mexico eating these same dishes and falling in love listening to sea kiss the sand while we dined. If you haven't been here do your self a favor and pull in you will not be disapointed.

Not Bad. Shrimp and octopus soup were good. Octopus cooked perfectly and soup was very tasty. The beef nachos were also good with the exception of the nacho cheese. the beef was season perfectly. The chips were OK and the corn tortillas were not made there. One BIG turn off was while we were eating they decided to mop the floor and the whole place smelled like pine sol. Not a good move. Service was friendly and prompt. I am now convinced that a good mexican place will have a TV on showing univision or telemundo.

You can't judge a book by its cover. This place serves up amazing food. My favorite is the Camerones Alculiche, I have no idea what that means. I get it with no rice no beans no tortilla, extra salad, then I eat it like shrimp salad. It's so bomb - shrimp with a creamy green pepper or green chili sauce. One of my favorite Mexican dishes ever. Ceviche here is outstanding as well, I get the Ceviche Tostadas. Ignore the bombed out appearance of this place, and just go. You can do take out thru the drive-thru - even though the drive thru menu has been completely vandalized & is missing.

Good food. Inexpensive. They gave us nacho cheese dip when we asked and extra nachos. I ordered three tacos and they also brought me a plate of toppings and sauces.

Five stars. Real true Mexican food awaits you here. The menu is all in Spanish, but the friendly waitress speaks English and will gladly assist you. I ordered one Carne Asada Taco and Three Chicken Enchiladas and I loved my dinner I'm glad to of found this restaurant and will be coming back in the future.

Suuuuuper authentic (as the name would suggest) and super delicious. Reasonably priced on top of all that. The staff was friendly and generous. Honestly can't think of a negative thing to say about my experience there. Definitely going back!

Good authentic Mexican food. Small and cozy building that I probably would have never tried if it wasn't for Yelp. Food wasn't too salty which I've had problems with at other Mexican places. My only complaint was I wish they served the meals at the same time as one meal was delivered five minutes ahead of the others. Other than that, it was a great experience for a small shop.

If you are a jerky lover, try the machaca, it's my favorite. I also like their chips and salsa.

Great alternative to Betos type restaurants here in West Valley. I come here every now and again and the food is great if you like the more authentic Mexican. Not the cafe rio type of Mexican so if you like the Americanized Mexican I would steer clear.

This place is amazing. Better than the southern California Mexican restaurants I've been to that receive rave reviews. I wish they were a little cheaper but it's worth the price.

Great food for a fast food Mexican restaurant. Not really a "sit down " kind of restaurant but you can dine on if desired. Food was really quite good though. Not a lick of English in the place though so make sure you know what you want ahead of time.

Dear, sweet, Mother of Ceviche!!!! I have now found a place to get my lime and seafood on. Thanks to fellow Yelpers we discovered this little delight in the barren restaurant wasteland that seems to be the WVC. The ceviche was some of the best basic ceviche I've had in Utah. We also ordered the barbacoa and it melted in your mouth. The fajitas were fantastic and something I will order next time we go. The service was outstanding and the waitress was very attentive and proud of the food. She brought samples of the barbacoa before we ordered and made sure our cups never runneth empty. A true gem in West Valley. Next visit will include the ordering of the Siete Mares soup and the mole. Watch for another (hopefully) great review.

The very best Caldo de Pollo around. So delicious and the service is great. I call in my order and they have it packed and ready to go with all the condiments too.

I often times complain about authentic/traditional cuisine in Utah...especially Mexican and generic Chinese. There are a couple places which truly hit the nail on the head. La Autentica is one of those places which gets Mexican food right. More specifically Sinaloa cuisine. I have dined several times at La Autentica and I have tried something new each time. Their selection of braised (I assume) meats and seafood/fish plates and traditional stews/soups are all very tasty. Order a side of queso fresco with any plate and it will add a great accompaniment to that dish. The menu has several "typical" Mexican options if you are looking for the standard burritos and enchiladas, however I highly recommend stepping outside and trying these dishes: Barbacoa de Res estilo Sinaloense, Birria Horneada (if you are okay with bones), Camarones al Chipotle. My only complaint with the restaurant is that it serves no Cerveza! Take a trip to the west side and get some great Sinaloense food!

fantastic, quick, no frills Mexican joint, that some might say compares with the best anywhere. we've tried (and loved) the barbacoa, carnitas, and al pastor tacos, the enchiladas, caldo de pollo (chicken soup), and the camarones y pescado enpapelido (shrimp and fish cooked in foil with onions, peppers, queso fresco, and cheddar) (this last dish takes a while to prepare). the servers are friendly, the customers are locals who know that this is spot rocks and that it offers a fair bang for your buck. it's quiet enough at lunch time to be served quickly, it's clean, and the food is as fresh and authentic as one could ask for. enjoy, and thank you Yelp for introducing me to another strip mall gem!

Place was surprisingly delicious. We were the only ones in the restaurant right at noon. That didn't stop us from ordering quite a few different items. The fresh guacamole they brought out was superb and went well with our different dishes. Some of their hot sauces were pretty spicy a little too much heat for my taste. Service was great, the workers were very friendly and energetic. Will go back to try out other items.

Had a doctor's appointment nearby, saw the reviews and decided to come. Loved it! I got the tacos, more mexican style (ground beef with some small bits of potato as a "filler"---just like my abuelita used to make them), the pickled onion, white queso fresco, lettiuce. The tacos were more Mexican style (estilo Mexicano) than american, with the cheddar and stuff. They were yummy as were the rice and beans. The real winner of the day was the FRESH juices. I got a fresh limeade that seemed like it was blended limes, water and ice with that lime froth on top. SO REFRESHING. Tart and sweet at the same time. My child got a fresh orange juice and mango drink and it too was fresh. It had the slight tang and bitterness that fresh squeezed orange juices have and it was a real winner. Definitely will go back.

First time I've really ENJOYED food from a Mexican restaurant! Best I've ever experienced. I will be back! For dessert I wanted the arroz con leche but they were out. Wonderful guy behind the counter suggested strawberries and cream, AWESOME! (Awesome that he suggested something else rather than lose a sale, AND awesome because it tasted AMAZING!

Food is good, place is clean and the price is right. I had the Milanesa for lunch. It is hard to find a good Milanesa in Salt Lake. This place has a very good version. The rice and beans are also very good. I will be back. Also, when you enter the restaurant, it seems like an order from the counter type joint but it is actually a sit down and order place.

La Autentica is very much a hole in the wall type restaurant. They serve traditional Mexican food including many seafood options. The chicken enchildas were pretty good, but they could have used some more spice and flavor. My wife and Dad had the green chili verde chimichanga and they said it was good but also could have used some more spice. Order in or take out, either way, La Autentica is happy to help you.

The bright orange, yellow, and red building on the north side of 3500 is hard to miss. Don't expect gringo-ified Mexican from this place. The entire menu is completely in Spanish (don't worry--they have lots of pictures as well), and our server spoke a little bit of English. I heard good things about the carnitas, so I went with the carnitas burrito, which came with a side of rice and refried beans. The carnitas burrito was super tasty, and smothered in a really nice green sauce. The refried beans were good, and the rice was spot-on. When you go, make sure you get some of the green guacamole crema sauce. It was the perfect addition to the burrito. We also had the chile relleno, and again, it was really good. They seem to specialize in seafood, as about half their menu was seafood items. I'll have to try a seafood dish the next time I'm out here, which, after tonight's meal, will probably be pretty often.

Freaking amazing, hit the spot for a Mexican food starved Calgary resident. We ate the tostada and ceviche. The tostada had enough of everything in it to make each bite super delicious. A surprise to me were the potatoes sine I've never had them in a tostada before. They soaked up the juices so they were tasty and the shell didn't get soggy too quickly. So tasty! The ceviche was fresh and delicious. My husband ordered that for himself and after one bite, I pulled a typical chick move and ate a bit more than half...like Jim Gaffigan's women and dessert joke, I went for a taste and pretty much hoovered it. So yeah. It wasn't just good because I haven't had Mexican food in a long time, it was legit.

The food was just ok- very ordinary mexican fare. The service was awful- disinterested, rude server. The kitchen is open to see- and it was less than appealing to see. Won't be back

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
